NYC Art Therapy offers workshops for clinicians,
schools, mental health facilities, and the general public.
Here is a sample of the workshops that can be provided.
WHAT IS ART THERAPY? - a
basic overview of art therapy, when and why to refer to an
art therapist, and an experience of art-making from an art
therapy perspective. Art materials provided. This workshop
is ideal for mental health settings interested in learning
how art therapy might benefit their program.
BC EXAM PREPARATION - review of art
therapy theory and practice areas covered by the exam, test-taking
strategies, and self-hypnosis techniques for exam-related
stress. Open to art therapists qualified to sit for the board
TRANSFORMATIONAL DOLL-MAKING - Make
your own hand-sewn doll, and learn about doll-making for pleasure,
self-soothing and bodyimage enhancement. Discussion will highlight
the benefits of doll-making for people with body image concerns
such as self-injury, eating disorders, trauma or borderline
personality disorder. This technique can be used with the
young child and the aging child alike. Art supplies, patterns
and refreshments provided.
CHILDREN'S DOLL-MAKING - Children love
to sew! In this workshop, girls and boys make a doll filled
with soft stuffing. For ages five and up, this workshop teaches
new skills, inspires creativity, enhances self-image and body
image, and is a lot of fun for everyone, boys too!
JAPANESE PAPER DOLLS - make your own
origami paper dolls and learn about traditional arts and culture
in Japan, with Toshiko Kobayashi, ATR, LCAT.
